LauraShy

Hello World!

My name is Laura Shy and I am a full stack web developer living in Richmond, VA

About

I am a full stack web developer with a strong background in project management and managing multiple concurrent tasks. I offer a lot of experience in analyzing a team to assess progress, procedures, and viable improvements to meet goals and ensure success.

My background as an award-winning orchestra director has helped me hone these skills, as well as teacher-level patience, leadership, and communication. Now, I am looking forward to applying these same principles to web development with an innovative and client-driven company.

My interests include hanging out with my dog, playing instruments, painting, and general shenanigans with my friends.

Interests

My past experiences in life and education have been quite the ride! I have lived in many places and worked for very different organizations in the past several years. From teaching 10 classes with 9 different subject areas in a Title 1 District to teaching orchestra during the pandemic with students both in-person and virtually learning simultaneously in an affluent district, I have been tested, tried, but have also gained so much. From these experiences, I’ve acquired more patience, empathy, clear multi-tasking skills, and strong collaboration and communication skills. These were all vital in order to successfully run two orchestra programs (middle school and high school) simultaneously for five years.

Even though I gained immeasurable skills from my past work, they were also trying times. My art projects, music, and straight up goofiness and shenanigans have always helped me push through the adversity, as well as help me connect with my students and coworkers. Being able to have fun and build relationships, while accomplishing clear goals, is a vital part of what I am looking for in a company and team. Currently, I am near completing my Full Stack Web Developer program with CareerFoundry and can't wait to get started in this new career!
